Celebrating 40 Years of Serving Credit Unions!

CU Members 40th logoCU Members Mortgage is thrilled to be celebrating 40 years serving credit unions and members across the country and we’d like to share with you a little bit about how we started and why it makes our company a valued part of the credit union community.
To really understand how we came to be, we need to start from the beginning in 1952 when a man named Jimmy DuBose started a small mortgage shop called Fort Worth Mortgage. He was a veteran just returning from the war and wanted to help his fellow veterans start fresh in their very own homes. It started small with Jimmy and his assistant, but people took notice of his dedication to the community and helping his neighbors buy homes and business took off.
Over the years, the company expanded in many different ways including the purchase of a savings and loan to fund the mortgage loans, then they started servicing loans and began an insurance company. In every part of the company, the focus stayed the same – serving the neighborhood and building the community.
In 1982, Jimmy teamed up with his friend Don Wagner to build a department that would work solely to help credit unions build communities. The philosophy of “people helping people” was a perfect alignment to help neighborhoods grow and make homeownership dreams happen.  In a few short years, credit unions across Texas, and then across the nation, began offering loans through CU Members Mortgage.
Mortgage lending continues to be our focus and Jimmy’s vision lives on in each borrower that makes their dream of homeownership happen with our help.
We’re looking to partner with credit unions who share our passion for helping the community and doing what it takes to do the right thing for members.  Sometimes that means helping the member become better prepared financially to become a homeowner. At the end of the day, we want to be sure we’re doing the right thing by the member to get them into their home and keep them there for a stable and secure financial future.
If your credit union is interested in making homeownership dreams happen, contact us today to learn more about our story.
